My Book Trail: Strawberry Milkweed

To get us in the spirit of this year’s Austin Texas Book Trail on April 12 + 13, we asked a few of our favorite local readers, writers, and community orgs about bookshops on their must-stop list. Keep scrolling to learn which bookstores our 2025 poster artist Strawberry Milkweed is hitting up this year.

✽ Meet Strawberry Milkweed, local artist + printmaker

Strawberry Milkweed Prints, our ATBT poster designer for this year, is an Austin printmaking business run by Eva Frederick. Eva is inspired by folk art, real and mythological creatures and medieval woodcuts. One of her favorite places to turn for inspiration is a book she found one day at an antique shop called “The Lubok: Russian Folk Pictures, 17th to 19th Century.”

What’s on Strawberry Milkweed’s Book Trail?

Lark & Owl Booksellers

In addition to my printmaking job, I also work at Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine, and we’re super excited to be partnering with Lark & Owl Booksellers in Georgetown for a talk about night sky photography! If you’re in the area at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 11,  two of our photographers will be sharing their tips and tricks for capturing the Milky Way and more.

Dragon’s Lair

My partner and I love board games and we’ve headed to Dragon’s Lair for gifts for friends (and for ourselves) in the past. This is where we bought Wingspan, which is now one of our favorite games! They also have a great selection of comics and an overall great vibe.

Keep Looking Shop

I’ve already been to almost every shop on my list, but not Keep Looking. They’re a newsstand featuring zines, magazines and general goods, and they’ve been on my Austin bucket list for a few months now! Can’t wait to finally check them out!

Alienated Majesty

Alienated Majesty is more than just a bookstore — it’s the third space I always dreamed of having in my neighborhood! When I have friends visiting Austin, I love to take them here to browse the selection of graphic novels, zines, art books and books by local authors, or attend one of their frequent shows, screenings and other events. As a kid growing up in rural Texas, I wished and wished for a life where I could walk to a community space like this. Alienated Majesty, you’re helping me live my dream!

Livra Books

Another walkable favorite for a Hyde Park-adjacent girlie! I could spend hours browsing Livra Books because you never know what you’ll find here. Their selection is eclectic and so fun. I love the rare book room, where I have, at different times in the past, become absorbed in vintage teen magazines about the Beatles and a coffee table book about moths. If you get snacky while browsing, you can walk a few short steps to NeWorlDeli and get a sandwich. The ideal situation.

The Austin Texas Book Trail will take place on April 12 + 13, 2025 at 29 bookstores across Austin. Learn more about this year’s Book Trail weekend here.
