My Book Trail: Your Local Book Club ATX
To get us in the spirit of this year’s Austin Texas Book Trail on April 12 + 13, we asked a few of our favorite local readers, writers, and community orgs about bookshops on their must-stop list. Keep scrolling to learn which bookstores Your Local Book Club ATX is hitting up this year.
✽ Meet Your Local Book Club ATX, local reading community
Your Local Book Club ATX is more than just a book club. It’s about good reads, great company, and discovering the best spots in Austin. We bring people together in cozy coffee shops, indie bookstores, and hidden gem bars to talk about books and connect. But it’s not just about the discussions. We also love coffee shop hangs, local pop-ups, group workouts, movie nights, and exploring the city together. Whether you’re here for the books or just looking to meet new people, there’s always a seat for you.

What’s on Your Local Book Club ATX’s Book Trail?
Vintage is hands down one of our favorite spots in Austin. It’s right on the corner of East 11th and Waller and has become our go-to for co-working, catching up over a glass of wine, and hosting our Book-to-TV Adaptation Club meetings. We’ve teamed up with ATX TV for these quarterly meetings where we chat about books that have been turned into tv shows, and it’s always such a fun time. The space itself is full of charm, with a building that dates back to the 1800s, and you can feel the history the moment you step inside. Whether we’re getting work done, curling up with a book, or just hanging out, Vintage is always a vibe.
First Light Books is one of our newer favorites, and we love everything about it. It’s tucked away in Hyde Park just north of UT’s campus, inside what used to be a post office. The space has that nostalgic library feel, with cozy reading nooks, a bar, and a café that makes it easy to lose track of time. It’s also right next to Tiny Grocer, which is perfect for grabbing a quick lunch. Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to read or just want to soak in the bookish atmosphere, First Light is always a great choice.
No Austin book list would be complete without BookPeople. From their incredible author events to the cozy CoffeePeople café inside, there’s always something happening. The best part? Their staff knows books inside and out. If you ever need a recommendation, just ask and they’ll set you up with something you’ll love. It’s the kind of place where you can spend hours wandering the aisles, finding hidden gems, and running into fellow book lovers. We’ll always have a soft spot for BookPeople!
